Collection: Mauricio Zequeda

Master of Visual Poetry

Mauricio Zequeda was born in 1972. A Colombian painter, muralist, and draftsman, he graduated from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia and has also developed an academic career as a university professor.

Zequeda received the third edition of the Fernando Botero Prize for his work “Algo más que un Rincón,” a piece that combines drawing, acrylic, and charcoal, revealing the multidisciplinary character of his practice.

His work is distinguished by the integration of drawing and painting, often incorporating objects, figures, and everyday situations that open the door to multiple interpretations. Through symbolism, gesture, and visual movement, Zequeda transforms familiar scenes into compositions charged with poetic and conceptual meaning.

At the core of his practice is an interest in the poetry of everyday life—using image, material, and narrative to reveal new meanings within ordinary experiences and to invite the viewer into a more personal and reflective reading of each work.
