Collection: Cristina Melgarejo
Cristina Melgarejo is a Colombian artist whose work is deeply connected to the social and cultural realities of rural Colombia. Her paintings often portray everyday life through human figures, traditional ruanas, hats, and landscapes, transforming familiar scenes into visual reflections on identity, community, and memory.
Her artistic language has frequently been associated with naïve art, characterized by direct forms, narrative clarity, and a strong emotional connection to her surroundings. Rather than idealizing rural life, Melgarejo uses painting as a means of observation and communication, giving visibility to the people, customs, and environments that shape Colombia’s cultural landscape.
Melgarejo studied Advertising Drawing and Ceramics, disciplines that contributed to her sensitivity toward composition, form, and material. Throughout her career, she has participated in numerous group and private exhibitions in Colombia and abroad.
Her work has been exhibited internationally in countries including Spain, Italy, and the United States, expanding the reach of a practice rooted in local experience but capable of communicating universal themes of belonging, tradition, and everyday life.
